Book Review : A Stranger's Love : a tricky family takeover and a fast blooming lovebirds filled with new perspective to look through dark rumors

Low-class lass who is a runaway, saved by a horseriding gentleman from family with prosperity, typical one you'd hear, but what if I say when its whole main complication is not even related to that? when the love story itself is just a sugar to support the main thing, for us to look further into anything without judging by the first look/hearing from rumor in this case.  Title : A Stranger's Love Author : Valerie Holmes Year : 2008 Collation : 180 pages It might sound like a typical period love story but honestly I wouldn't mind, but I love how this story ends, it reaches around 80s pages for you to get to the exciting part, which means it is right in the middle of the story. What's interesting after I'm reading this is how I had to clarify things from previous pages again to awaken myself about how the problem begin, with such satisfying ending, I didn't even expect the end to be so .. happy. I haven't read Holmes' other books but I am thrilled to read ...

Book Review : The Pricker Boy : childhood thrill challenged by a mental disturbance

Deeper than what I would've thought, from the subjects of this book, besides horror story, it has interpersonal relationship and emotional problems, so, I had wondered first, maybe this isn't just about some ghost story, or according to the synopsis-a childhood boogeyman coming to life and not just some myth anymore, there definitely something deep about friendship and how this book would try to make us attached with its character and its relationship. Title : The Pricker Boy Author : Reade Scott Whinnem Year : 2009 Collation : 296 pages Childhood horror story is always so interesting, it was fun to listen to when we were kids and life was simpler, if you were born into a pretty privileged family then all you gotta do during your childhood is to play with your friends or looking out for your younger sibling if you have one. At first, this story started out as a simple childhood flashbacks, lots of flashback as the narrator overcomes his fear towards his nightmares. He mentione...

Book Review : Goosebumps - Chicken Chicken : overreaching punishment turned into a comedy highlight

They say "don't judge a book by its cover" but I do prefer a book with certain interesting cover, that's why painter, graphic designer or any other career related exist! we gotta appreciate their effort to make books become desirable!. This one example a great great example why I choose a book usually by its cover, also the synopsis. Title : Goosebumps : Chicken Chicken Author : R.L Stine Year : 1997 Collation : 148 pages Usually I would put my opinion about the book's appearance at the end of the review, but since it has become the biggest interest from the beginning, I am going to give it out earlier. The cover looks funny, creepy and intriguing, also you may have figured out what is it about, but it looks somehow a cute chicken but terrifying since it's a curse, also what the hell happened? what could have happened that made those poor characters end up getting cursed into a chicken?.  The title and the look of the cover are simple but it explains everythin...

Book Review : Fear Street Cheerleaders - The First Evil : why someone can still be possessed without looking crazy

I finally found this book, and quickly read it overnight. This may be something expected to hear when it comes to a teenage horror cliche, there must be one or two characters involving cheerleaders or a quarterback, but this one might be something new in the past, especially for me, because in some movies, cheerleaders are somehow always regarded as the villains, cocky arrogant and attractive girls as the first impression, but this book shows how much they are the same like all the other students.  Title : Fear Street Cheerleaders : The First Evil Author : R.L Stine Year : 1992 Collation : 176 pages Maybe for now I could say this is one of my most favorite ones from fear street series besides Switched. If you have read Switched, R.L Stine did not hesitate to show the complication right at the start of the story, therefore, I did not get bored at all right from the start until the end of the book. The difference with this First Evil is that this still has a long introduction but les...

Book Review : Fear Street - Ski Weekend : a totally perfect planned or "plotted" holiday?

A bit refreshing to read knowing it's basically about somebody's weekend is about to get ruined, their planned holiday, like literally all planned out so well that they didn't even expect everything. However, I may have to inform that in my book review, I do discuss about the aspect of few storyline, therefore there will be a lot of spoiler, I even explain the whole plot.  Title : Fear Street : Ski Weekend Author : R.L Stine Year : 1991 Collation : 180 pages Serial killer lurking around the ski lodge, shutting down their lights, turning off their electricity, forcing its way inside then murdering them all one by one. Nope, it's not one of those serial killer during holiday story, it's different, with lots of creativity and unexpected complication, the climax is right nearing the end of the book, so we have to be patient. I was almost satisfied with how well it turns out, what makes this different from other fear streets is that this isn't even taking place in Sh...

Book Review : The Nightmare Room - Dear Diary, I'm Dead : when you take advantage of the future's globe given to you, don't expect for no payment

I haven't read the nightmare room series, but I could say one thing is that this is similar to Goosebumps, friendly for children but to terrify them at the same time. This is a perfect book to give to your naughty children too, I would do it if I'm a parent already, especially from this plot, it gives so much lesson from bits of comedy and frightening threats from just a single black book Title : The Nightmare Room : Dear Diary, I'm Dead Author : R.L Stine Year : 2000 Collation : 164 pages I wanted to compare this book with others from the same Nightmare Room series but this is the first book I've read and I have to review this as fast as possible or I'd forget about it. From the way I see it, and why I could say it's similar to Goosebumps is because of the language, how the character speaks, mostly first point of view and childish, it's like R.L Stine manage to act as a child while writing this down, it sounds so convincing that a child is writing this with...

Book Review : Fear Street - Runaway : pretending to be envious is one way to make yourself look innocent

My mistake is not reading the synopsis first, I just thought this is someone from Shadyside who is trying to get out of that town, but no, it's someone getting in, bad luck I say. Title : Fear street : Runaway Writer : R.L Stine Year : 1997 Collation : 146 pages Felicia, the main character is having a bad life, having to runaway from home during her teen life is such a horrible experience whereas she could enjoy dating boys her age (I can say this because she's straight in the book), learning or camping, spending the nights in her girlfriends' house and rent some films, she gets to enjoy that of course, for a brief time. this book started with few flashbacks from some chapters, and is similar to stranger things vibe, of course this is way before the stranger things started but yes a power, a lab experiment however this one is consensual which is rather odd and uncommon for me to read, and some teenage love triangle which is a good spice to add some drama. R.L Stine wrote th...

Book Review : Fear Street - Missing : why so-called protective lies can instead be endangering and getting into a circle with great purpose is sometimes deceiving

If you know the synopsis already, you may already get the spoiler by the title I just gave, but thankfully if you haven't, I'll tell you later. This is another book of Fear Street series, but this one is actually taking place on the fear street itself, not just the Shadyside town.  Just like my other book review about Fear Street's Switched, yes I do follow the trend about the fear street trilogy on Netflix, I've been a huge fan of Goosebumps since I was a kid and now I can read fear streets for free, I should've known about fear street a long time ago. Title : Fear Street : Missing Writer : R.L. Stine Year : 1990 Collation : 180 pages I read it last night and I am surprised, well of course I have read other good books but this one is surprising, well maybe predictable to some people but not me, since I have only read three fear streets (including this) and goosebumps books (don't know how many I've read already), this book is sort of twisting a bit at the e...

Book Review : Fear Street - Switched : common cliche involving mental illness trapped within the belief of shadyside's mystical artifact

As an intro, I read this book from a digital library and as a reminder to always support your local or any other library as they have provided you free access to all kind of information including this! entertaining stuff obviously. but anyway, I read this book from openlibrary lots of free access of course and you have to make an account first but its easy peasy, also if it's a tandon (only one copy available) then you can only read it for one hour but dont worry you can always extend it for another hour.  If you watch netflix, you may wonder “it’s a trend, that’s why you read fear street because of that trilogy, right?” yes you damn right! I personally have been a huge fan of R.L Stine’s works since I was a kid, I still had that torn Goosebumps book from my sister with old cover from the 90s, so when I saw one of R.L Stine’s works is being adapted into a movie, I became super excited and now I just noticed fear street as I haven’t read them all, so this is my chance, especially wh...
