Let's read my review about my most favorite film of all time : Somewhere in Time.
I'm not going to do a huge research about this film or how it was made, this movie is adapted from a novel named Bid Time Return, I thought it was "bad time return" 'coz clearly it is a bad time to return but hey! there is no word Late to catch up your lover.
this movie is started with a 'full of curiosity but an expected complication', an old lady came to a young grown man named Richard Collier, and she gave him a vintage golden-like pocket watch then she said "come back to me" clearly y'all know what that means, well.. it's hard to explain but I realize it gets sadder when that old lady come back to the hotel where she was stayed at, she sheds a tear on the way back there in a cab.
it gets sadder again when she arrives at the hotel's room and she ignores her friend's question "how was the show? did you enjoyed it?", then that old lady turn on a music box, hold a book made by screenwriter Richard Collier and staring at the window while sitting in front of it with the 'shaky' chair, smiling as if she had reached her goal of her life. after I watched it until the end, I can't lie I cried, I mean seriously if you want to understand this review, you gotta watch it first because to understand it you have to get through watchin it from the very start until the very end. it is sad, too sad I can't lie again, probably like Hachiko, the suffering of the certain character in both stories are a very long-term suffering, through so many years and so many unanswered puzzle. In Hachiko, the dog doesn't know his master had died so the dog waited for years until it's death and eventually being reunited again with his lovely master in the 'afterlife' while in Somewhere in Time, Elise McKenna aka the old lady I mentioned earlier.. she losts her lover all of sudden and dunno why and clearly nobody could ever explain how could that happen? so she spent years being single just for him her true lover Richard Collier from the future, then she met him again when he 'was' with another woman (honestly.. uglier) and when he hasn't recognize Elise yet, however... that was the actual last time Elise met her lover then she died at the hotel just the way Richard die at the end of the story, bad ending but the 'actual' or 'imaginative' ending is that they both are being reunited again and for good in afterlife. Imagine being in love to someone who really matters to you and suddenly that someone just gone, literally gone without any tracks to find him or her, so you spent your whole lifetime just to look for your lover, if you couldn't.. then you only have to find the answer of 'how could that happen?' 'time traveling', then you met your lover again when you are so old so (y'know) that your lover won't be attracted to you physically because he or she never met you before but they will anyway, and what's more painful is that when your lover is with somebody else, oh.. my heart is being torn to pieces I couldn't pick it up all by myself, can't imagine that you had done nothing wrong but you had to deal with his complicate time-traveling time, I honestly don't want to mess around with time.. with history or with past, I'll just let it flow like that because that's how it supposed to, I guess it's an 'unchangeable' destiny that you just have to accept the bitter truth of being torn apart between time 'coz you love somebody from the past or the future, uh :(
This story is so touching, so romantic at the same time with the music by composer John Barry, the instrument is sad-romantic-dramatic-calm and etc. just truly complete what my heart had felt after watching this movie, the superman play his character really well in this drama movie and non heroic stuff around in it with Jane Seymour enchant us all with her classic beauty and elegancy. oh yeah with the majestic building that never changed .. the Grand Hotel, so beautiful, so big, so high that it could reach my dream (aww) but seriously after watching this movie, I wanted to go there, I want to have my night with my future husband there while listening to Somewhere in Time's theme while doing the penetration of human sexual nature behavior and it is called making love but I really don't want to have such complication from Somewhere in Time happen in my real love life.
another plus for this movie is because there's this cute appearance of little arthur and at the same time you have this vibe of 'funny lil old guy could be my bud' because literally that little arthur is that 'funny lil old guy could be my bud', I'm saying without anyone telling you the puzzle.. you could easily guess that cute kid arthur is literally that cute old guy arthur because they are look alike each other, round face.. light hair.. funny figure and etc... I really wish that I'd have a kid looking like little arthur because damn! so cute.
looking for a minus of this movie? well it is depend on your taste, if you like a high resolution on every movies then I guess this movie is just not for you because you see.. this movie was made around the late 70s so.. of course the quality is not so bad during the time moreover recent times but hey everybody likes classical resolution, right?
another minus? to me.. there is no minus for this movie but it'd be a lot better if Richard never had a girlfriend described in the story sooo Elise wouldn't be hurted so bad when she met him again.
the point of this review ? this movie is GREAT, you'd love it if you are not the type of person who get easily bored by certain scenes in a movie that you choose not to continue watching it because you're livin in a boredom.. hihih kidding, what I meant is that if you are that type of person, I would still recommend you this because this could stressed you out but at the same time you'd be relieved to know that there always be a happy ending of every romantical love story.
